Mothballed Rental Car Fleets Fill Stadium Parking Lots — News
“Throughout the U.S., rental car companies have parked hundreds of thousands of unused cars,” according to an article by Robert Gauther. Professional sports stadiums are a popular location to store the mothballed fleets of cars. “Seen from above, places such as Dodger Stadium and Santa Anita racetrack look as if it’s a big day at the yard, when, in fact, the stands are empty.”
According to Gauther, a decline in car sales and a resulting glut of inventory have also contributed to the dystopian scene in parking lots around Southern California during the pandemic .
Most of the space in the article is devoted to photographs of the scene at Southern California professional sports facilities like the aforementioned and a few more.
